The Click Fraud Cycle
Click fraud is not a once-and-for-all phenomenon—it can take place for any length of time, at any time, and without any advance notice.
Clickrisk is uniquely equipped to provide ongoing detection and removal of bogus traffic.
There is a cycle to click fraud that is perpetrated by malicious attackers and unethical affiliates, causing wasted ad dollars. The following is the iterative process behind the click fraud cycle:
The Click Fraud Cycle

Period 1:
(A) Click fraud occurs
- Bogus clicks are inflated, with little or no chance of sales conversions.
(B) Application of filtering to sources of fraudulent clicks
- Bogus traffic is filtered (i.e., washed out) through identifying sources of fraudulent clicks.
- Total clicks decline for a short period of time, re-establishing legitimate clicks.
Period 2:
(C) Click fraud re-occurs from new sources
- Bogus clicks occur, with no chance of sales conversions.
- Total clicks are higher than first click fraud incidence, as reporting improves and better ROI enables growth.
(D) Application of filtering to sources of fraudulent clicks
- Bogus traffic is filtered (i.e., washed out) through identifying sources of fraudulent clicks and removing them.
- Total clicks decline again for a short period of time, re-establishing legitimate clicks.
- This enables growth to take place.
Period 3:
(E) The click fraud cycle repeats itself, with continual filtering increasing total legitimate clicks each and every time the bogus traffic is filtered—putting your ad dollars to better use.
